In a dramatic turn of events, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab has received a significant boost ahead of the parliamentary elections, with key leaders from rival parties crossing over to join its ranks. The latest additions include BJP’s Kuldeep Singh Shanty and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Gurdarshan Lal, who were formally welcomed into AAP by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The induction ceremony, which took place on Saturday, April 27, saw the presence of AAP’s MP candidate for Jalandhar, Pawan Kumar Tinu, and senior party leader Rajwinder Kaur Thiara. The joining of Shanty and Lal, both hailing from the Doaba region, is expected to bolster AAP’s presence in the area significantly.
In addition to the Doaba region, AAP also received a notable boost in the Majha region with the inclusion of Rahul Sharma, a prominent youth leader and Punjab Vice President of the National Student Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress. Sharma, known for his influence among the youth in the Gurdaspur constituency, was warmly welcomed into AAP by Chief Minister Mann.
Expressing his satisfaction with the growing support for AAP, Chief Minister Mann attributed the surge in membership to the party’s track record of governance over the past two years. He emphasized that people from all sections of society are joining AAP, contributing to the resurgence of Punjab.
Mann expressed confidence that AAP would rewrite history by securing victory in all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. The influx of leaders from diverse political backgrounds signals a shifting landscape in Punjab’s political arena, setting the stage for a fiercely contested electoral battle in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
