In a significant update, Instagram’s Head, Adam Mosseri, announced that users can now delete their Threads profile independently from their Instagram account. This development addresses a major concern among Threads users who feared losing their Instagram profiles while trying to delete their Threads account.
To delete your Threads profile without impacting your Instagram, follow these steps:
- Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to access your profile.
- Go to the menu in the top right.
- Select ‘Account’, then choose ‘Deactivate or delete profile’.
- Click on ‘Delete profile’ at the bottom.
- Follow the on-screen instructions, then confirm by tapping ‘Delete Threads profile’.
Additionally, Threads is rolling out a second upgrade, giving users more control over their content visibility across Meta’s platforms. Currently, posts from Threads also appear on Facebook and Instagram feeds. However, following privacy concerns, users can now opt out of this feature, confining their posts to Threads only. This setting is accessible in the Privacy section under Settings.
Despite its initial surge in popularity with over 100 million sign-ups in five days post-launch in July, Threads saw a decline in user engagement. By August, daily active users on the Android version of Threads dropped significantly. This fluctuation highlights the challenges new apps face in retaining user interest over time.
This update is a crucial step in addressing privacy concerns and providing user autonomy, reflecting Instagram’s commitment to enhancing user experience and trust.
